Christmas was meant to change the world.

This Christmas at TNL we are going to challenge ourselves to engage the holiday season in a whole new way. The holiday season is marked in the church as the season of Advent, when we prepare to celebrate Christmas and remember the coming of the Messiah. 

When people become Christians, they don’t at the same time become nice. This always comes as something of a surprise. Beginning to follow Christ doesn’t automatically give a person manners and morals. It is the same story today as it was a few thousand years ago. One city in particular, Corinth, had a reputation in the ancient world as unruly, hard-living, and promiscuous. Paul writes a letter that reviews the old ground of belief and action.

"Letters to Corinth", a series by Teaching Pastor Dave Terpstra and Community Pastor Brian Gray, walks through this instructional and inspirational letter by the apostle Paul. A firm, clear, affectionate review of belief and action is as needed today as it was then.

“A safe place.” That is what people say they have found here at TNL, but what does it mean? Why is it important to each of us to help create a place that is safe and ultimately where is safety found? In a three week series preparing for our annual fall retreat Teaching Pastor Dave Terpstra along with guest speaker Michael Tucker, founder and director of HIV Care Link, speak openly and honestly about our need and our responsibility to continue to make the church a safe place.

We tend to compartmentalize our lives.  We have a private life, a public life, a work life, a home life, a sex life,  and a financial life.  Some areas of our life we hand over to God, but some we hold back.  In this 12-week series "My Life", we will be looking at life -- All of it.  And we will be wrestling with the compartmentalization of our lives, wondering together what a whole life turned over to God might look like.

For the last several years we have had the opportunity to invite professors from Denver Seminary to teach alongside of TNL teachers during the summer on Sunday nights. Jesus came to earth to set the world right.  Through is death we have the opportunity to be right in our relationship with God.  But Jesus’ mission wasn’t just concerned with individuals’ eternity.  His intent was also to bring justice to the earth here and now.  As followers of Christ, we have the opportunity to carry out Jesus’ mission of justice in our world today.  Join us for this 6-part series through the season of Lent on the life and teaching of Jesus as we gain a fresh perspective on Jesus’ mission.
