For God So Loved the World
December 5 through 19, 2006
by Dave Terpstra
Over 2000 years ago heaven invaded earth through the birth of a little baby. The Bible teaches that Jesus was God in the flesh. And besides all of the stories of shepherds and angels and wise men and a star, there is a single verse in the Bible that seems to sum up the Christmas story better than any other. John 3:16 is perhaps one of the most well known verses in the Bible; and even though it isn’t normally associated with the Christmas story, it is what the original Christmas was all about.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 TNIV
That’s Christmas in a nutshell. |

Serenity, Courage & Wisdom
November 21 and 28, 2006
by Jared Mackey with John S. Miller and Bob Krulish
The Serenity Prayer: it is a prayer written during World War II that Alcoholics Anonymous adopted and became their central truth. Jared Mackey, along with John S. Miller, Worship Core Pastor, and Bob Krulish, Director of Pastoral Care at Greenwood Community, offer their personal reflections on this prayer for serenity, courage, and the wisdom to know the difference. The hope is through this honest conversation each of us would be encouraged to more clearly see our lives and the sovereignty of God in them.
“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference.” by Reinhold Niebuhr |

q&a 2006
October 17 through Nov 7, 2006
by Dave Terpstra and Brian Gray
Every community has certain threads of conversation. TNL is no different. For the past several months we have been paying special attention to the questions that are being asked inside of our community. This series is designed to address the three most significant themes of conversation that we have been having as a community through individual talks. Then on the fourth night we will have an open forum for questions. Our hope is not that we answer each of these questions once and for all, but that we push all of our conversations a little bit further.

This eight week series examines the basis of Christian belief and the impact of stating our beliefs – both to others and to ourselves. |

Love & Excuses
June 6 through 27, 2006
by Cynthia McDowell, Jared Mackey and Dave Terpstra
“Love God…love each other…love your neighbor…love your enemies.” For every instruction to love we have an excuse. This series examines both the direction to love given by Jesus and our too common responses to each of them. Our reasons and replies to the commands to love insulate us from the reality of following Christ. This series confronts our excuses and exposes our hesitancy to truly follow the direction to love.

Twinkle
May 30, 2006
by Elisa Morgan
| Being a light in dark places is always a challenge. When it comes to sharing faith, it's easy to bump up against a pile of evangelism fears and go no further: I might offend, I don't have all the answers, I might fail. . . . These thoughts are all very real-and very intimidating. But "God wouldn't invite us to be a part of something impossible," says Elisa Morgan. You can share your faith in simple and everyday ways.
With real-life stories, scriptural insight, and practical advice, Elisa Morgan will get you past the I can'ts of sharing your faith and help you grab onto the I cans of relational evangelism. Because a little light can go a long way. |

Practices for the Spiritual Life
April 18 through May 23, 2006
by Dave Terpstra and Brian Gray
This six week series offers practical ways on how we can create spaces and rhythms where God can change us into who He wants us to be. It is a willingness to enter into the process of “spiritual formation”; the practice of taking the next step in the journey of Christ being formed in me; not solely for my own benefit, but also for the benefit of others. The practices of Examination, Silence, Confession, Sabbath, Learning, and Giving establish and encourage the transformation of our lives and souls. Along with teaching in this series there is an opportunity to engage each week in personal reflection through additional materials.

Yeshua
March 7 through April 11, 2006
by Dave Terpstra, Jared Mackey and Justin Kron
This Jewish man with an ordinary name, “Yeshua”, was anything but ordinary. This six week series is a journey through the history, culture, and traditions of first century Judaism. Each step along the way we see Jesus turn the accepted forms of life and worship upside down. In doing so he not only challenges the assumptions of his own day; but challenges us as we examine our own expectations of who he truly is. In four educational and challenging talks Dave Terpstra explains Yeshua as a Jew, a rabbi, a radical, and the Messiah. Jared Mackey offers the contrast of the Jewish ritual of mikvah and Christian ordinance of baptism. And the series concludes with guest teacher, Justin Kron, walking though a Jewish Passover Seder and illuminating the person of Jesus found within its’ symbolism. “Yeshua” gives followers of Christ a greater sense of the world Jesus stepped into, the expectations and customs of Jewish culture, and ultimately how a Jew with an ordinary name would change the world.
